Ways to Serve
Serving at Concordia follows Luther's Two Kingdoms idea: Kingdom of the Right and Kingdom of the Left.
Trustees–Trustees include the President of the Congregation; Vice Presidents of Administrators, Business, and Deacons; Recording Secretary, Treasurer and Financial Secretary. The Trustees legally oversee the operation of all that the Lord gives us to do.
Deacons–We serve by caring for God's people at Concordia and beyond, reminding them of God's promises and how they are fulfilled in Jesus the Christ.
Music–We love to sing a new sing at Concordia. Dr. Dalaie Choi leads this ministry, equipping both vocalists and instrumentalists to serve God's people through beautiful music. Currently, both our adult choir and handbell choirs are active.
Youth–From Nursery Sunday School to High School I.M.P.A.C.T. (Inspired Moments Preparing Authentic Christian Teens), we love to teach Jesus to our children.
Education–Getting together with each other, while reading and discussing The Bible, makes us more Christlike. Genesis 1:3 says, "And God said, Let there be light: and there was light," and Hebrews 4:12 tells us, "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." God's Word does what it says.
Ushers–Ushers welcome people to The Divine Service on Sundays and other Worship Celebrations. They assist in whatever way to make the service go well.
Altar Guild–The Altar Guild prepares The Lord's Supper and cares for the sanctuary throughout The Church Year. Altar Paraments and Banners change regularly.
Fellowship–Most Fellowship at Concordia occurs organically, people getting together on their own to encourage others in their discipleship with Jesus. Pre-Covid coffee time after The Divine Service in the narthex and Sowing the Seed Fellowship at Sweet Nel's Coffe Shop occurred not he 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month.
Emmanuel Dining Room–Concordia is responsible for the noon meal every 27th of the month. When preschool is in session, preschool families make brownies. The recipe for the noon meal is on the EDR page under the above Service tab.
Lutheran Community Services–We participate in many activities that LCS hosts: food pantry, Walk-Run, Room at the Table Breakfast, and Gimme Shelter Golf Tournament.
Hilltop Lutheran Neighborhood Center–We help make Christmas special for children, whose families are struggling financially.
Meals on Wheels–We deliver meals to people the last full week of every month. Food pickup is across the street from Concordia at Silverside Church.
Habitat for Humanity–In recent years we mainly support this service to our community financially.
Orphan Grain Train–We collect clothing and other small household items, which we then help pack and ship to people in need. Destinations often include West Virginia and Haiti. Others include countries, which use to be part of The Soviet Union: Latvia and Georgia.
Luther Towers in Wilmington–We help serve lunch to residents, as well as work in the gift shop.
Beyond Budget Benevolence–Quarterly we give significant money to several of the organizations listed above.
Mosaic–Mosaic is a ministry that provides housing to people with intellectual disabilities. We support Mosaic not only financially but any items that could help maintain a home.
