“Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. ... Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble" (Matthew 6:28b-29, 34).

God the Father provides for us.  Period.  That's the teaching here.  We certainly should prepare for the future, using the gifts He has given us to love our neighbor as ourselves–think talents, skills, knowledge etc.  Still, that planning may go right out the window very quickly tomorrow.  God allows to happen all that does, indeed, happen. Even the evil that happens, God allows.  Think about Jesus' crucifixion.  Yet, look what God did with that crucifixion:  it becomes the way of salvation.  Remember how the patriarch Joseph confesses the truth that God turns evil to good: "As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for" (Genesis 50:20).  That God is in charge means that we don't have to be, thereby freeing us from anxiety.  Our role, job, calling? To love God and neighbor.  Cheers to being like a lily.
