Detail of Empty Tomb is a painting by Anne Cameron Cutri

Psalm 139:14-18, 23-24;  Proverbs 27:1-24; John 20:1-18

The Psalm famously recounts that we are made by God--wondrously. We respond in awe. The intricacy of each person's creation continues throughout life, as the Psalmist implores God: "Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me an dknow my thoughts" (23).  The Proverbs reading leads us to consider life beyond ourselves: so much of what happens to each of us is beyond us. This calls for humility. We are not in charge of our destiny, but rather we employ wisdom in the moment to lead Godly lives. Finally, Mary Magdalene goes to the tomb to find it empty, cloths lying on the ground. Simon Peter and John find the same. The risen Jesus greets Mary in her bewilderment with her name! Stunned and amazed, she proclaims to the disciples, including Peter and John who have gone home, that she has seen the Lord!

Created wondrously, given wisdom to live beyond ourselves, and having hope in the new creation make today's readings helpful to live transformed lives!
