Psalm 62:5-10; Numbers 10:11-36; Luke 16:19-31

The psalm calls for the exclusive worship of God–to trust in Him only, not people. In the Numbers passage we read about YHWH (LORD) going before and leading his people into the wilderness. "And the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them three days' journey, to seek out a resting place for them." YHWH leads and provides rest/security for his people. The Gospel reading recounts Jesus telling of a rich man and a poor man named Lazraus. The rich man ends up in hell, but the poor man in heaven. The rich man begs to be where Lazarus is, but that is not possible: too great a chasm separtes the two. The rich man pleads to Abraham that his loved ones might know this realty. Abraham refers only to the Scriptures: Moses and the prophets. There is no immediate revelation of God, but the Word tells of Jesus.Β
